Michigan Lodging for Bird Watching Vacations
 |
Spend a day or a week at our elegant Inn at the Park
bed and breakfast, and you will never be bored. Of all the luxury inns
in South Haven, we boast the largest rooms and suites with cozy
fireplaces, TV/VCR, wireless Internet, private baths, some include a
soothing whirlpool Jacuzzi, and all have either a king or queen size
bed. Enjoy South Haven’s harbor walk and numerous Lake Michigan water
activities: go sailing on the Cat's Meow , hire a fishing charter from
Miss Vicky, go on a sunset cruise aboard the Friends Good Will
tallship, go kayaking or canoeing down the Black River. Have you
noticed a Bald Eagle sitting in a tree waiting to swoop down onto his
next meal or see one of the eagle's youngsters pop their head up out of
the nest? Have you captured an Indigo Bunting flickering from tree to
tree with your camera? You can see these birds and more from the
Allegan State Game Area to the Kal-Haven Trail in South Haven and onto
the trails along the Dunes in Saugatuck. Sand Hill Cranes love a
farmers' field, so if you're driving along in the countryside around
South Haven Mi, you probably will see a couple now and then. |

White Swan Inn is
located near P. J. Hoffmaster State Park which features over
three miles of Lake Michigan shoreline offering great bird watching as
well as viewing opportunities in the 297 acre site. Also,
we are near the Muskegan Water Refuge area for birding opportunities.
Duck Lake State Park is another prime bird watching site, noting a
study that identifies the park as having more bird species than P.J.
Hoffmaster State Park in Muskegon. Other fertile viewing areas include
along the channel by the White River lighthouse, in the area's many
parks and woodlots, and the White River marsh. The wetlands are
incredible for its swans, great blues, sandhill cranes and ducks.
Woodpeckers and a lot of the smaller birds, like indigo buntings, wood
thrushes, scarlet tanagers and warblers" can be seen on the pathway
along the White River marsh.

Come visit Arrowhead Cove
and reconnect with Mother Earth. Here are a few suggestions. Walk
barefoot through the grass. Sit on the deck and watch the sunset.
Glide over the water in a kayak. Gaze at the stars. Relax
with a campfire. Watch the deer, swan, bats, hummingbirds,
fireflies, frogs, or dragonflies. Gather herbs from the
garden. Take a walk in the woods. Feel the energy of a
brisk, fall breeze or a warming, spring sun. Enjoy a hot beverage
while swinging on the patio. Search for arrowheads. Listen
to geese, crickets, tree frogs, songbirds, or falling acorns.
Smell the honey locust in spring, fresh basil in summer, and drying
cornfields in autumn. In the winter we have downhill skiing, downhill
tubing, cross country skiing, ice fishing, ice skating, building
snowpeople--come to Michigan and enjoy it all. De-stress and unwind,
replenish and invigorate, breathe deeply and take in the quiet
beauty. Featuring three non-smoking guest rooms (year round) and
Cove Cottage which sleeps 6. (May-Nov. only)

The Kirby House is a beautiful Queen Anne Victorian manor located in the Saugatuck/Douglas, Michigan resort area. It
is one of the last of the elegant homes of its era to survive. Many
others were unfortunately lost in fires or were sadly demolished as
useless relics of the past. Situated on the one acre of ground the home
offers eight guest rooms, most with private baths, five fireplaces
(three of which are in guest rooms), and several common areas. The home
is graced with quarter-sawn oak woodwork and panels, prismed windows,
tall ceilings with gently curved moldings, a six sided tower,
wrap-around front porch and beautiful gardens. After a day of shopping
in Saugatuck and Douglas' unique shops and art galleries, enjoy a glass
of wine on the wrap-around porch as you watch the sunset. Or, relax on
our large back deck while you take a dip in the heated, in-ground pool
and soothe your muscles in the whirlpool Jacuzzi! If you don't want to
get wet, take a 3/4 mile walk to enjoy the spectacular Lake Michigan
sunset. Afterwards head back out for dinner at any of Saugatuck's fine
restaurants.Bird watching is a favorite pastime for guests and the locals around here.
